First Communion Group

The Parish undertakes a First Communion programme every year for children in school years 3 or 4. The age range ideally is between 7-9, depending on the maturity of the child. However, we also open our doors to older children were unable to prepare for their First Communion at a younger age. If you are in doubt about your child’s readiness, please contact Father Gordon or Angie Hart.

First Communion preparations will start with a Parents Meeting on Wednesday 2 February in
St Dominic's Room. The meeting follows 7:30pm Mass - Meeting at 8:00. All parents are welcome to join us for Mass beforehand. If you wish your child to participate in this year's programme, but their names have not yet been added to the list; please contact Fr Gordon or Angie Hart (01787 224383) as soon as possible.

Programme

This usually takes 10-12 weeks to complete based on a pattern of 2 hour sessions. These are held in St Dominic's Room, Kelvedon on Saturdays. However, we are constantly reviewing and improving the content and format so it is possible that changes might occur from one year to the next.

Children spend all week in a school environment so we aim to maintain a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We encourage participation; the sessions should be fun and enjoyable whilst also being structured and instructive.

We ask that parents participate as 'assistants'. This allows us to comply with Child Protection regulations and [if necessary] gives reassurance to the child. More importantly, it gives parents the opportunity to participate in this very important stage in their child’s faith journey.

First Communion is normally during a Sunday Mass in June and can take place in any of the churches in the parish,. These arrangements are flexible to an extent and can be discussed thoroughly during the first meeting with the parents.
