Parish Folk Band - Meditation
September 2011
With Charlotte now having returned from finishing her good works in Namibia; a summer which saw
Meditation performing 'The Journey' to the prison community for the first time; plus supplying music
at a wedding ceremony and various folk funerals; we did manage to have a few weeks rest between us!
Our next presentation of 'The Journey' will be in the church of Our Lady and St George, Walthamstow in October
followed by the Poor Clare Colletine Community, Hawarden, Clwyd in November.
Next March will see us in Wells Cathedral, Somerset.
February 2011
Now well into 2011, our parish folk group Meditation continue presenting The Journey around the UK.
In January they appeared in the Anglican church of St Andrew's in Marks Tey near Colchester, helping raise
funds for Charlotte Ezra and friends to visit Namibia this summer. They are
going to assist in renovating a school in a village for two weeks.
Added to the venues listed in previous updates is Southend on 21 May 2011.
Two dates yet to be arranged are: Leyland, Lancashire and Newham, East London.
The big event in our calendar will be on 27 March at the Brentwood Theatre to raise money for
Cafod.
This will be the first time the theatre would have put on a Christian-themed performance and The Journey should be an interesting and spiritual experience for both audience and staff! Tickets are £10.00 and are only available from the theatre box office: 01277 200305.
Meditation's target is to try and raise £3,000 for Cafod at this event.

Mediation performing The Journey at St Mary the Virgin Church, Kelvedon
Mike Wigley (far left) and Pat Ezra (far right) have led our parish folk group for over twenty years. During that time, their combined musical talents, an excellent working relationship
and total commitment, have seen them travel to many other parishes throughout
the UK bringing praise and worship of God to others through their music. Well done, Mike and Pat!
September 2010
With the continuing ministry by our parish folk band, Meditation, they have had a very busy
summer, having recently assisted with our spiritually refreshing Parish Mission, they returned
from presenting 'The Journey' in Lynton, North Devon exhausted, but raring to go!
Not only are they supplying music for our parish masses here in Kelvedon, but they also assist
with the music in other parishes in our diocese including Hadleigh (Essex) Tilbury and
Elm Park.
Future presentations of 'The Journey' will be at:
| Saturday 26th February 2011 | Our Lady help of Christians Church, Torquay |
| Sunday 27th March 2011 | Brentwood Theatre (in aid of Cafod) |
| Sunday 17th April 2011 | St Monica's Priory, Hoxton (East London) |

July 2010
Click here to listen to Meditation on BBC Essex - from 25 July 2010
On
Sunday 11th July Meditation received a very warm reception at the convent of the Poor Clares in Crossbush near Arundel. We presented 'The Journey'
to the community. Something like this had never been done before in modern times and a very spiritually
uplifting experience was enjoyed by all. Our thanks go out to Sr Aelred and Sr Felicity for looking after us so well.
Sunday 11th July also saw Pat and Charlotte Ezra and Michael Wigley invited to the studios of BBC Essex for a preliminary chat with the early morning Sunday programme host Ian Wyatt. Meditation are due to appear on his programme from around 7.05am on Sunday 25th July where there will be
interviews and a live performance of some of the songs from 'The Journey'.
This will be followed by their playing at the First Communion Mass at 11am in St Mary Immaculate & The Holy Archangels, Kelvedon.
Then it's on to a recital of 'The Journey' in St Helen's Church, High Road, Ongar at 5pm in aid of the Haiti Appeal.
Gosh! What a busy day for them!!
Whilst being heavily involved in our Parish Mission, the band's next venture outside of our parish is to supply a
folk mass in the parish of Our Lady of Light, St Osyth in Clacton at 11am on Sunday 18th July.
June 2010
As the message of 'The Journey' spreads via our parish folk band Meditation, so their performances take them to fields afar.
Over the last twelve months they have presented 'The Journey', a meditation on the life of Christ through readings and music to parishes all over Essex; including an appearance at the Tiptree Festival of Music earlier this month.
They refer to themselves as a 'Christian' folk band rather than Catholic as this has enabled them to broaden their appeal and bring the message to all Christian churches.
As well as providing music for our parish church in Kelvedon, Meditation have also been asked to provide music in other parishes which may not possess the number of musicians that we are so fortunate to be able to call upon. The success of this has led to Meditation helping one of the churches to form their own music group by providing monthly workshops.
July 2010 sees one of Meditation's busiest months to come. Not only will they be assisting with the
Parish Mission 2010, but are also giving performances of 'The Journey' in Arundel, Sussex at the
Poor Clare's Convent on Sunday 11 July; and, in St Helen's Church, Ongar on Sunday 25July in aid of the Haiti Appeal.
Future venues include: Elm Park (September), the Brentwood Theatre (March/April 2011 in aid of Cafod) and Exeter (date to be arranged). This November sees them performing Christmas carols in Capel St Mary for the second year running.
